This fun class will explore the basics of dance in a creative manner that incorporates song and dance with children’s music. Children will be taught moves that help them develop coordination, rhythm, balance, use of space and social skills, all while having fun with a parent! These classes are offered in 8-12 week sessions.
Using Imperial Classical Ballet technique from the ISTD we explore technical ballet vocabulary, develop artistry, strength, grace, coordination, balance, posture, and expression in our dancers.
Through set exercises and unset, or free classwork, we develop the ability to pick up choreography for international ballet exams and competition performances.
Tap dance places an emphasis on creating rhythms using your feet and body as instruments. Fancy footwork is the key to tap, which has become increasingly popular due to its fast pace and the technical challenges that it presents.
Jazz places an emphasis on strength and flexibility that is developed through technically challenging movements, including kicks, leaps and turns. Jazz dancing is popular because it encompasses many different forms of dance, including rock, blues, hip hop, African rhythms, modern, musical theatre and pop. Jazz dancing is very high energy and constantly changing. We incorporate all the latest L.A. and New York styles, along with the foundation of jazz and technique.
Our Calgary hip hop dance classes focus on the latest styles emerging in street dancing and hip-hop. Street dancing and hip hop is a style of jazz dancing that has become extremely popular due to the many artists and music videos that are a part of today’s culture. A fast-paced style, it involves popping, locking, funk and old school.
Lyrical/contemporary dance is based on expressing the lyrics or feeling of music through gestures, dance, spirit and mime. This class helps to develop expression, flow, maturity and artistic quality of the art of dance. The latest styles of lyrical are very contemporary and also include modern.
Elite Dance Academy is proud to offer our students a great musical theatre program. This style of dance involves combining drama, dance and singing. The emphasis is on teaching students how to use their voice and facial expression to add to their dance repertoire, creating a more diverse and complete performer. Classes focus on show tunes, character development, improvisation, mime and singing. This is a fun, upbeat class that is great for the beginner dancer.
This class focuses on gymnastics training and incorporating body flex into dance. Any dancer 5 years old and up may participate in this class. We follow the Acrobatic Arts syllabus unless otherwise specified.
